Focus on the SF-24 in Spain

F1 Tech Updates for Spanish GP 2024

Published on 2024-06-20

The Formula 1 grid heats up at the Spanish Grand Prix with a flurry of development from top teams. Ferrari and Red Bull take center stage with significant upgrades aimed at boosting performance, while other teams make subtle but strategic tweaks.

Ferrari Doubles Down on Development

Following a major upgrade introduced at Imola, Ferrari wastes no time in bringing another substantial package to Barcelona. This new iteration focuses on airflow with modifications to the sidepods, engine cover undercut, floor fences, body, and edges. Additionally, a reworked diffuser and adjustments to the halo highlight Ferrari's commitment to optimizing their car's overall downforce and handling. A circuit-specific rear wing further emphasizes their focus on tailoring performance to the demands of the Spanish track.

Red Bull Prioritizes Cooling and Performance

Red Bull follows a similar approach, introducing upgrades with a dual focus on circuit-specific needs and overall performance. Their revised sidepod inlet, engine cover, and floor body aim to improve cooling efficiency, particularly important for the warmer Spanish climate. Additionally, a new beam wing and rear wing endplate showcase Red Bull's commitment to raw performance gains.

Other Teams Make Strategic Tweaks

While Mercedes and McLaren opt for stability with no new parts, other teams make targeted adjustments. Aston Martin upgrades its front suspension fairings, brake ducts, and rear corner to increase downforce. Williams, after previously introducing weight-saving measures, aims for consistency by bringing both cars up to the same specification. Haas joins the development fray with a small rear winglet designed for a localized downforce boost.
